Meet comic artist Nikkol Jelenic, artist of Midnight Rose, Red Sonja vs. The Army of Darkness, AfterDark and more at Super Jersey Summer Spectacular
Nikkol Jelenic is a comic book artist, writer and illustrator known for her work across horror, fantasy and independent comics. She collaborated with legendary creator Jim Starlin as the artist on AfterShock Comics’ Midnight Rose, contributed sequential artwork to AfterDark, and recently created variant covers for Dynamite Entertainment’s Red Sonja vs. The Army of Darkness. Her work also includes The Haunted Box, Women of Darby Pop and her creator-owned horror series A Taste For Killing.

Nikkol Jelenic is an American comic book artist, writer and illustrator whose work combines a love of horror, fantasy, pop culture and visual storytelling.
After getting her start working with independent publishers, Jelenic built a body of work as both a sequential and cover artist. In 2016, she was selected as one of the winning artists in Darby Pop Publishing’s Breaking Into Comics: Women of Darby Pop competition, with her work appearing in Women of Darby Pop #1.
Her career expanded with AfterShock Comics, where she contributed sequential artwork to the horror anthology AfterDark. That project led to a major collaboration with legendary writer and artist Jim Starlin, creator of Thanos, Gamora and Dreadstar. Jelenic illustrated Starlin’s 64-page horror graphic novel Midnight Rose, published by AfterShock Comics in 2022, and also provided the book’s main cover.
Jelenic and Starlin have continued their creative collaboration, with Jelenic announced as a penciler on an upcoming anthology featuring Starlin’s creator-owned Dreadstar.
More recently, Jelenic made her Dynamite Entertainment debut as a cover artist on Red Sonja vs. The Army of Darkness, bringing together two cult-favorite properties in the sword-and-sorcery crossover starring Red Sonja and Ash Williams. She contributed covers throughout the 2025 series, including its fifth issue.
