Joey Lauren Adams is an actress, writer, and director whose work has left a lasting mark across film, television, and independent cinema.

Fans of Kevin Smith’s View Askewniverse know her as Gwen Turner in Mallrats and Alyssa Jones in Chasing Amy, the role that earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress. Her performance in Chasing Amy remains one of the most emotional and defining performances in Smith’s filmography, helping turn the movie into one of the standout independent films of the 1990s.

Beyond the View Askewniverse, Joey has appeared in more than 30 films, including Dazed and Confused, Big Daddy, Bio-Dome, The Break-Up, and Greedy People. Her instantly recognizable voice, sharp screen presence, and ability to move between comedy, drama, and indie film have made her a fan favorite across multiple generations.

Adams has also built an impressive career behind the camera. She wrote and directed Come Early Morning, starring Ashley Judd, which was selected by Sundance and nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. The film also earned Adams the Women In Film Dorothy Arzner Directors Award, recognizing her work as a filmmaker.

Most recently, she appeared in the CMT series Still The King, where she also directed two episodes, and Showtime’s The L Word: Generation Q. Her upcoming and recent film work includes Greedy People, The Oak, and Fall Is a Good Time To Die.
